FORS and the University of Lausanne are offering
A Postdoctoral Fellowship
in the field of survey methodology
for a period of 12 months, plus possibly a maximum of 24 additional months, starting in Spring 2012.
The Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences (FORS) enhances and supports work in the social sciences by conducting survey and methodological research. It produces important longitudinal datasets like the Swiss Household Panel and the Swiss part of cutting edge international comparative surveys like SHARE, the ESS, the EVS, and the ISSP. FORS places significant emphasis on the study of how to improve data quality, including methodological research on non-response, language and translation in surveys, and mixed modes.
The National Centre of Competence in Research “LIVES – Overcoming Vulnerability: Life Course Perspectives” analyzes the effects of post-industrial economies and societies on the development of vulnerability in terms of social exclusion or precariousness. Hosted by the University of Lausanne, the NCCR brings together national and international researchers to examine life courses. The NCCR has a strong focus on methdological questions concerning the collection and analysis of longitudinal and biographical data, as well as on the combination of survey and event data.

We offer a fellowship in an interdisciplinary and stimulating environment, which is dedicated about half time to contributing to our in-house methodological projects. The other 50% will be devoted to your own research in the field of survey methodology.
Applicants are required to hold an academic degree in the social sciences (Dr., Ph.D. or equivalent). They are expected to have survey and/or methodological research experience and a scientific publication record in the field. Selection will be based on the proposed research plan in methodological issues. Empirical parts of the research plan are expected to be based on FORS data sets (SHARE, SHP, ESS, ISSP, EVS, etc.).
A good command of English (spoken and written) is essential in our multilingual scientific setting. Familiarity with French and/or German are desirable.
