WASEDA Business School (WBS) at WASEDA University in Tokyo, Japan is recruiting a fixed-term faculty member for a contract period of three years.

1. Number of positions and type: One position for a person who is competent to take charge of courses related to Business Administration). Rank (professor, associate professor or assistant professor) will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experiences.

2. Commencement of the employment contract: April 1, 2014

3. Contract period: Three years.

4. Salary and benefits: In accordance with the salary scales used by WASEDA University.

5. Content of work:

(1) The standard teaching load is 4/4. (A course [or koma] meets once per week for 90-minutes. There are 15 weeks in a semester.):
a) Courses conducted in English in the MBA Program of WASEDA Business School. If the applicant is fluent in Japanese, then he/she may be requested to take charge of courses offered in Japanese, too.
b) Number of courses: in principle, four per semester.

(2) Participating in other educational and research activities at WBS.

(3) Participating in activities of the WASEDA Business School Research Center.

6. Required qualifications: He/she must be able to deliver courses in English. Additionally, the prospective applicant is required to meet either of the two qualifications indicated below.

(1) Has obtained a doctoral degree in business administration or related field at the time of application.

(2) Will obtain a doctoral degree in business administration or related field by the end of March 2014.

(6) A list of major publications (maximum 20) in academic journals and academic conference presentations with abstracts of about 400 words each. (Note: The doctoral dissertation may be included in the list of major publications.)

(7) Copies of publications (maximum five)

(8) Self-evaluation of Japanese language proficiency and Japanese cultural understanding.

(9) Research plan during the period of employment (Note: The applicant may be requested to submit documents other than those listed above as deemed necessary.)

8. Application deadline: The completed application including the above documents must reach WBS by August 29, 2013.

9. Method of selection: Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview and a mock class session (or a research presentation). Relevant dates will be announced in due course. Cost of travel to and from the interview and other expenses will be borne by the applicants.

Applicants should have a strong focus in quantitative research but also an interest in developing practical applications. Research can be based on various methodological approaches such as field or laboratory experiments, the analysis of field data, or formal economic models. We also welcome applicants from other related fields such as labor economics, applied
econometrics, (behavioral) microeconomics, organizational behavior, or psychology, who have a strong background in one of the research methods and show a convincing willingness to work on topics of personnel economics and HRM in the future.

ETH Zurich: Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Social Network Analysis

The Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences at ETH Zurich (www.gess.ethz.ch) invites applications for a tenure track assistant professorship in Social Network Analysis. The position is part of the interdisciplinary Behavioral Studies Section and open to applications from all scientific disciplines.

The candidate should have an internationally recognized track record in Social Network Analysis and be able to build and sustain a strong research program. Furthermore, he or she should document an ability to teach effectively and be clearly committed to doing research in an interdisciplinary environment. The new professor will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (in German or English) and graduate level courses (in English) within the scope of the required electives in the humanities and social sciences. Salary will be on the Institute’s Senior Grades salary scale (starting at £53,234) at a level commensurate with the academic standing of the appointee, plus £2,323 London Allowance per annum.

The appointment will be full time, and a start date of 1 January 2014 is preferred, although an earlier or later date may be agreed if practical. Job share will be considered.

In view of the nature of the work involved, any offer of appointment will be conditional on a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. We are seeking to appoint a Professor in the Department of Quantitative Social, who will be the Principal Investigator for the Millennium Cohort Study. This is one of the three world-renowned British birth cohorts managed in the Centre for Longitudinal Studies.

You will be committed to leading the future development of an extraordinary multi-disciplinary longitudinal research resource. You will take the scientific lead for planning the study, act as a senior link to Government departments, encourage use of the MCS data by researchers and also represent the MCS in the international research community.

You will have an excellent record of research and scholarship, including an outstanding track record of social science publications based on analysis of large scale longitudinal data sets and an outstanding record of success in external research funding from a range of sources. You will have proven ability to design and deliver complex large scale research projects and an understanding of the management and analysis of social science data sets. It is also essential that you have a substantive interest of clear relevance to the MCS study, for example in adolescence and/or transitions in young adult life.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of groups and experience of disseminating research results to professional, practitioner and policy audiences and the ability to combine research and scholarship with high levels of administrative competence are also required.

The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and the School of Business and Econo­mics of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg have set up a joint doctoral programme in labour market research (GradAB).

  • The course programme promotes theoretical and empirical methods at an advanced level. Additionally, applicants are granted access to the excellent data of the IAB on employment and social security.
  • Doctoral students benefit from the professional research environment that enables them to apply their knowledge in academic and applied empirical research.
  • We address outstanding graduates from economics, sociology or other social sciences who hold a master degree or diploma. Applicants are expected to submit a proposal addressing empirical and theoretical research questions in the field of labour market research or the development of the required statistical-econometric methods.
