Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Supply Chain and Logistics – HICL 2019

Hamburg International Conference of Logistics (HICL)

hosted by the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and invite you to participate on the

26 & 27 September 2019
and an additional Ph.D. seminar on the 25 September 2019

Digitalization trends continuous to shape the industrial world opening up new opportunities across a wide range of sectors. Artificial intelligence (AI) is considered a key driver of digital transformation that has the potential to introduce new sources of growth. Besides AI, the recent advances in machine learning and automation have created a whole new business ecosystem. Additionally, customers are demanding more innovative, more diverse and greener products. This creates numerous challenges for all actors in the supply chain; yet, they also present a unique opportunity to create solutions that improve performance and productivity. HICL 2019 focuses on research concepts and ideas that foster the digital transformation in logistics and supply chain with a focus on artificial intelligence. For this year’s theme:

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Supply Chain and Logistics

we invite empirical, theoretical, methodological and practical contributions addressing topics related to one of the following tracks:
– Innovation and Technology Management
– Risk and Security Management
– Sustainability and City Logistics
– Maritime and Port Logistics
– Supply Chain Analytics and Blockchain
– Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0

It is our understanding that many of tomorrow’s goals can only be achieved by a constant exchange of ideas within the scientific community. HICL seeks to create an inspiring environment for researchers and professionals to discuss solutions, challenges, and responsibilities companies face in logistics and SCM. We provide a multidisciplinary network and welcome scientific and practical contributions from different disciplines, including Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Law, and Mathematics. All accepted contributions will be published open access in HICL book series

Submissions will only be accepted through the HICL website: (https://hicl.org/submit/abstract)

How to develop a strategic plan for funding your research (12 February 2019)

Tutech Innovation GmbH will offer a How to develop a strategic plan for funding your research – workshop that will take place on * 12 February 2019 * in Hamburg at the premises of Tutech.

The continuity of research funding often makes or breaks a research career at the postdoctoral stage. As institutional core funding diminishes and external funding becomes more and more competitive, how do you build your resources systematically and mitigate the risk of gaps in funding?
This workshop explores the concept of strategy in the research context. Having a clear idea of your research direction facilitates aligning even small projects to larger goals, making individual proposals more compelling. It will also help to avoid the trap of letting funding dictate your research focus which leads to a fragmented track record. The goal of the workshop is to provide guidance on how to approach the development of a strategic funding plan in the individual research setting. Participants will learn how to apply key elements of strategy to develop their research agenda, identify a portfolio of funding opportunities to be pursued in the coming years and manage the grant life cycle systematically to build the resources and capabilities necessary to deliver long-term sustainable research.

TUTECH INNOVATION GMBH which is organising the workshop was founded in 1992 as the technology transfer institute for the Hamburg University of Technology. We are offering services regarding participation in EU-funded programmes especially for publicly funded universities and SMEs.

Call for Applications: GIGA Doctoral Programme

The GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies / Leibniz-Institut für Globale und Regionale Studien is an independent social science research institute based in Hamburg. It analyses political, social and economic developments in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East and links this knowledge to questions of global significance. It combines region-specific analysis with innovative comparative research on accountability and participation, peace and security, growth and development, and power and ideas. The GIGA Doctoral Programme invites applications from

Prospective Doctoral Students

to join the programme on 1 October 2019. The GIGA Doctoral Programme (DP) is a three-year structured programme for junior researchers, in which they can pursue their research and professional development, particularly in the field of comparative area studies (CAS). GIGA doctoral students are fully integrated into the GIGA’s research structure and benefit from close supervision within an international research environment. The training programme fosters their engagement with the GIGA’s global approach to scholarship and provides them with the necessary methodological and soft skills to pursue a career in academia and beyond. Through academic exchanges and field work, doctoral students engage with the ‘GIGA-regions’ and build their own networks. Additional mobility grants are provided for field work and conference attendance and, in line with the Leibniz Association’s principle of ‘theoria cum praxi’, doctoral students are offered exposure to policy advice and knowledge transfer activities. Doctoral degrees will be awarded by one of our partner universities, dependent upon the affiliation of the student’s first Supervisor.

Applicants are expected to fulfil the following criteria:

  • An excellent grade point average and a final degree (masters or equivalent) in political science/international relations, economics, history or a related discipline.
  • A high-quality project proposal that fits with the GIGA’s research agenda. Priority will be given to projects with a cross-regional or a comparative area studies focus.
  • Strong command of the English language (German is not a prerequisite).

We strongly welcome international applications. Diversity and the reconciliation of work and family life are of great importance to the institute.

Please fill out the GIGA DP application form: https://www.giga-hamburg.de/en/dp/application and send it with your full application (Ref.-No. GIGA-19-01) including:

VHB ProDok: Kursverzeichnis 2019

EURAM 2019 CfP: Knowledge Management and Knowledge Transfer in Start-ups and SMEs (ENT SIG Track T03_12)

European Academy of Management Conference in Lisbon (26 – 28 June 2019)

Proponents:
Simon Fietze, University of Southern Denmark
Sylvia Rohlfer, CUNEF, Spain
Claudio Petti, University of Salento, Italy

Short Description:
The survival and growth of an organization depend mainly on the capabilities of its management and its employees; and its ability to ensure knowledge transfer in, from and to the organization. To understand how these processes are organized, it is vital to focus on how input is transformed into innovation and to include the control structure as all activities related to the process have to be coordinated and structured. In a context in which formalized processes are unevenly developed and management knowledge may be more unevenly spread, innovation and knowledge management research need to take several issues into account.
