10th International Research Workshop „Methods for PhD“

Empirical research is seeking through methodological processes to discover, hopefully, nontrivial facts and insights. Beside choosing a topic and grounding an idea in theory, empirical research consists of gathering and analysing data as well as presenting results in scientific contexts. Our workshop (September 25-30, 2016) tackles these steps of your research project:

  • Gathering data via (un)structured interviews or surveys and
  • using the computer for qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

The regular workshop fee is 449 Euro. It covers the participation in three courses, meals and accommodation. The workshop fee is 289 Euro without accommodation (only meals are included). It is possible to get a certificate on 5 credit points (according to the European Credit Transfer System). Please note that the number of participants is limited to 20 persons per course!

The following courses will be offered:

Parallel morning session 1 (26-28 September 2016):

  • Data Analysis with R
  • Data Analysis with Stata
  • Grounded Theory
  • Qualitative Interviewing
  • Developing Theoretical Contributions

Parallel afternoon session 2 (26-28 September 2016):

  • Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA)
  • Case Study Research
  • Introduction to the German Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP) and Applied Survival Analysis
  • Analyzing Panel and Spatial Data
  • Questionnaire Design

Parallel session at the SDU (30 September 2016):

Call for Papers: Workshop on Exploring the Dynamics of Organizational Working Time Regimes

This international research workshop invites empirical and conceptual papers that examine and theorize organizational regimes of excessive working hours, their emergence, evolution, persistence, consequences for employee well-being and work-life balance.

The purpose of the workshop is to extend the mentioned lines of inquiry by explicitly examining the organizational, occupational, technological and institutional drivers underlying regimes of excessive working hours in an effort to deepen our knowledge of how to change them. We particularly invite empirical studies and other approaches that look at the emergence, evolution and change of organizational working time regimes.

Institution: University of Graz

Organizers: Renate Ortlieb (University of Graz), Georg Schreyögg (Freie Universität Berlin), Sara Louise Muhr (Copenhagen Business School) and Blagoy Blagoev (Freie Universität Berlin).

Deadline for abstracts: 30.10.2016

Call for Participation: Developmental Work Group at EURAM 2016

We would like to invite you to participate in the Developmental Work Group “Democratizing Learning and Development through Art-Based Mediation and Playful Modeling” which we organize for the EURAM 2016 conference which will be held in Paris from June 1-4. The Developmental Work Groups will take place in advance of the conference on May 31. With the DWG we intend to provide a discursive frame where participants can bring in, experience, reflect and discuss art-based mediation and playful modeling in interactive round table sessions.

We will contribute to the question of future learning and development in professional and university contexts using art-based mediation and playful modeling, which contribute to management research and practices on „social innovation/entrepreneurship“, „ethical leadership“, „social responsibility and governance“ etc.

Organizers: Kamel Mnisri (ICN Business School Nancy), France Klaus-Peter Schulz (ICN Business School Nancy), France Silke Geithner (Dresden University of Technology) and Takaya Kawamura (Osaka City University).

Call for Submissions: 2nd Workshop on Leadership, Diversity and Inclusion

To follow up on the successful Workshop on Leadership, Diversity, and Inclusion held at CBS in December 2014, CBS Public-Private Platform research cluster on Diversity & Difference invites you to the 2nd Workshop to be held at CBS in May 2016. This time the focus will be on inclusive leadership. The notion behind the 2nd Workshop on Leadership, Diversity and Inclusion is to theoretically and empirically explore the meanings and implications of adopting an ontology of inclusion. Is inclusion just a new way to manage diversity or does it actually leave the inhuman notions of diversity behind in search of possible pathways towards more open and equal organizations? Can inclusion change practice? May inclusive leadership provide new opportunities not only for acceptance of the other, but also for rethinking and reshaping organizations in the image of the other?

Institution: Copenhagen Business School

Keynote speakers: Yvonne Benchop, Nijmegen School of Management, Radboud University and Scott Taylor, University of Birmingham

Deadline for abstracts: 15.03.2016
